Ceramic, a sensorial experience
“My work focuses on experiencing materiality, textures, and light which come together to create unique pieces that bring timelessness to the space.”
INSPIRED
BY LANDSCAPE
I'm Margaux Leycuras a ceramic artist who lives and works between Bordeaux, in France and California. After graduating from the Ecole Nationale d'Architecture de Nantes, I worked for several years in high-end residential architecture in California. It was in this environment and through this culture that I developed my ceramic practice. I approach ceramics as an extension and complement to my architectural practice: space becomes a sensory experience, and clay is one of my means of expression.
Inspired from wilderness, touched by powerful landscapes, driven by the effortless beauty of nature, born from emotions and sculpted by hands.
INFLUENCES
My work feeds from my Californian experience, which translates into an aesthetic identity that includes the importance of the relationship to light and its variations, and constant references to nature and open spaces through natural and organic shapes which emphasize the material, its distinctive features and imperfections which give life to the pieces. The Japanese spiritual and aesthetic precepts of wabi-sabi are also an important part of my work. As an appreciation of the beauty of imperfection and impermanence in materiality enhance by the passage of time. Theses inspirations translate into a quest for balance and harmony revealing the textures and materiality through minimalist forms.
